Your friend, daughter or sister just told you she’s pregnant. You may be feeling all different emotions – shock, uncertainty and/or your own beliefs about her options about what she should do. You can be sure that she’s feeling all sorts of emotions, too. As her friend, you should be honored that she told you. That shows confidence in you and in your friendship.
Perhaps she’s considering abortion. You can support her by listening, being non-judgmental, and helping her think through what she believes. She’ll want to consider the benefits and risks of each pregnancy option (continuing the pregnancy, abortion, adoption) and how she would feel in the future about the option she chooses. She may be very emotional, so one way to help her is to encourage her to slow down and make an informed decision. And, if she lives near a First Choice center, ask if you can make an appt. for her to medically confirm her pregnancy and get more information about each option. All of our services are free of charge, and we would welcome the opportunity to help her at such a critical point in her life – and help you as you walk with her.
